Improving car safety/security & insurance...

  1.6 Ford Focus
I had the idea earlier today that if I fit fog lights to my car, would the insurance cost go down as I am technically improving the safety of the car... I have already been told that insurance companies do not see it that way but what about an alarm?

Im not totally sure if my Clio has an alarm at the moment, but I know it has an imobaliser. When I press the lock button the lights flash as if there was an alarm, and it really does look like there is one with the imobaliser flashing on the dash... would it affect the insurance and in what way if I got an alarm fitted by Renault to my Clio?

I had a Cat 1 alarm fitted to mine, put fog lights in and Direct Line didnt care . No discount for me :( Best thing you can do is ring up you insurance company and ask them, or go on their website?

If you have little black sensors at the top left and right of the windscreen inside your car, then you have an alarm. Otherwise the immob light just flashes away to fake an alarm being fitted.

Insurance companies dont give a f**k, there in it for huge profits.

Personally i can not understand how companies can make profit on something that is needed be law.

Im with MoreThan and can't find much... Perhaps I will call them soon. I did find out that I can't use my car on the track though, they ruined my fun.

They make a profit on it because you have no choice to buy it. It's the perfect business because your guaranteed by law to make a profit... the government don't care how much is made as long as your insured. I got a quote on a Ford Escort 1.4 before and it came up as £6,000 a year.

insurance companies ae w*****s. its like if u upgrade your brakes and declare them, ur insurance goes up. WTF. surely if u have better brakes you ae less likely to go into someone

The faster your more likely to go though is the asnwer i got :)

That must be the worst job working for an insurance company, you always have to think negative at everything. You can't have better brakes because you will go faster and brake later so you will crash, you cant fit fog lights to your car because they look sporty and will make you think you have a sports car and drive faster... which will make you crash...

Stupid really, I wonder if they are the same at home. We won't be having chips for dinner because some are sharp and big so you will choke and die.

Insurance companies really tick me off...

Whats their excuse for not dropping the price after a proper alarm system has been fitted?
