Increased Displacement?

Tav

  Clio 197
Just wondering if there is scope for increasing displacement on the 172/182 engines and if anyone has ever done it? Coming from Polo's it was quite popular to go from 1272cc to 1341cc...and some crazy fools even went to 1500cc and had silly silly silly amounts of power (250bhp from what was a 1.3 8v!)

1.3 8v didn't have liners...I'm only just getting into Clio's so I'm not 100% schooled up on the engine config. nothing I don't know about small block VW lumps...learning slowly about the Renaults when I get a chance.

can go from a 82.7mm bore to 84mm bore, pistons available from multiple manufacturers. a stroker crank would be a lot of cash, money better spent elsewhere. To be honest, it's a 2 litre already, so it's a pretty decent capacity to start with. Better to look at raised compression and cams if you want to get trick with internals

84mm gives 2062cc.

Maximum bore...I honestly dont know without some serious measurement and probably destroying a block. would probably have to involve an x-ray machine to measure bore thickness, or cut a cross section to achieve the same. Cylinders would be getting a bit close with more than 84mm just as a general opinion. 83.7mm is largest oversize "standard" piston, 84mm are available from wosner, iapel etc
