Induction kit on insurance??

  Track valver + Ibiza FR
I've been wanting to put a pipecross viper induction kit on my car just to give it a bit of a sportier sound. I thought I better ring the insurance abefore I went out and bought one just to find out how much it would cost me to declare it on the policy. They told me that it would cost me £120 more a year just to have an induction kit on it.

Just wondering what other people have done about this problem because I know other people with a 1.2 have put induction kits on.

Did people just not declare it on their policies?

Any advice would be brilliant!!!!!!!!!

Cheers
Jams

alloys dont cost me anything, but i think ind will do alot, but they r easy to fit so jus dont tel them and swap it wen it goes to a garage

Keep your original pipe with you and if you crash pray you can still get the bonnet open?

Obviously the best and legal option is to tell the insurance, mine barely went up at all when I declared all my mods with Elephant, went up about 40 quid when I declared rims, tints, lowering, exhaust and induction kit.

tesco where gonna charge my 100 quid so i didnt tell them just keep a screw driver in the car for emergencys...... like taking it off quickly in case of accident takes 2 seconds to undo lol

it depends who you are with as to what they charge. a specialist insurer will be much cheaper than a mainstream one. but usually exhausts and IK's are about the same increase in premium circa £80 - £120 extra on the premium i think. and thats each...

they've done you a favour i think... saved you the £120 for the insurance, plus the cost of the viper! who needs noise anyway, the engine's are rattly and noisy enough!

My last Clio, all mods decalred increased my premium by about £80 p/year. That's tints, lowered, alloys, colourcoded, IK etc etc...

I just told Barclays insurance about my Viper and it went up £40.10. Best to tell them as Sods Law says if you bend the car it will be a front end job and you cant get to change it back over!

I can't understand why anyone would not want to declare any mods, it's simply not worth it, If you have a bad accident and you've not declared the mods your f****d, It's piece of mind
Putting an IK or Zorst on and deliberatley not telling them is like sitting on a timebomb

I agree. It is sods law and you have to think of the 3rd party if you are to blame. I love comments like switch it over etc put if you have a bad accident on the mway your fucked and cant get out becuase your trapped.... Plus, if some spotty oik hit me and the 1st thing he did was to reach into the bonnet and start messing with things, it would ring alarm bells, bells of which would be reported to the polis.

You aint going to make your 1.2 much faster anyway...

I have a pipecross IK but havent told the insurance, how exactly do you explain to someone in Bangladesh that you've modded the car & wondered if you have to pay more?. It would take forever spelling that out in the phonetic alphabet. I'm with Norwich Union direct btw.

last thing i would be doing if someone hit my car with no mods declaired would be telling the police!!! it would then void their insurance and wouldnt pay out to you.

also he says he wants it to sound better not go faster..

IK's can be unbolted in seconds. Agree with the exhaust thing tho

In insurance, silence amounts to misrepresentation.

You have an obligation to disclose any material facts that would affect their decision to provide cover at a certain price. By not telling them you have in fact "lied" about yourself/your car.

Lets say you have six points on your license. When asked "how many points do you have" would you say "none"? That in effect is exactly what you are doing by not declaring mods.

Gives them the perfect excuse to get out of paying out in the event of a claim.

With every person looking to claim the most mony possible at every opportunity these days, it's mad in my opinion to risk that just to save a few pounds insuring a minor mod.

mynes all kitted up tints lowered 17s and exhaust an id not told em a thing if the moan ill fight

they wont moan, not even close....they'l just say you are not insured simple as that. you have voided the insurance contract!
and if you get a producer my the police you are also bugger'd!

You should disclose any changes tbh, it's not your call on whether something is deemed to be a mod, thats the decision of your insurance company, all you are obliged to do is disclose the facts, then let them take it from their, if your not happy with their slant or increased premium or admin fee then simply choose another insurance company
Lying by omision is not worth it
I know various legal people and worst case scenario is with invalid cover if you kill someone in an accident you can be done for manslaughter in the eyes of the law
Everyone can put their own version of how they see it but your version counts for nothing and is irrelevant in the eyes of the insurance company, what they says goes - simple as
