Info needed about drink driving

anyone who drink drives, no insurance or license should have the book thrown at them for just one of these offences.

But doing all three is just insane.

No matter what the outcome, it is good to see that nowadays the prevailing attitude is firmly against drinking and driving. Not so long ago it was quite different...

Yeah, this is true. Our parents generation had entirely different views. Apparently the focus is on trying to sway attitudes against speeding now in the same way, to make it socially unacceptable and abhorrent like drink driving. Frankly I doubt this will happen.

I think James could get done for permitting no insurance as i cant see the judge buying the story, even if it is true. Well i have a friend who used to drink drive regularly, one day after a session at the pub he was following another mate on his motorbike, he accidently knocked him off his bike, the fuzz was called and he got a year ban, sadly this same person has failed to learn his lesson and still does it, i hardly speak to him now as i want to punch his face in everytime i see him:mad:

oh dear. Similarish thing happened to a friend of mine. We bought a car as a group project, it was in my housemates name as we were going to sell it to him. Anyway, my housemate was out drinking and we were at home. My other mate (who bought it joint, but whose name it wasnt in) took it for a drive with another mate around the block - he thought he was insured because he had another car. He was involved in a head-on crash (other car was on the wrong side of the road) and the police came. They said, well seeing as youre not insured and the car has no tax but did have MOT (off the road registered, but police ignored this as it was being prepared for the road before taxing, they said it was ok because it was so close to the house), you can either: a) say your friend said you are insured on it and hell get stiffed, or b) the owner could say hed TWOCd it and my mate would be screwed. The cops were encouraging my mate to think about number 1 and get my other mate (who wasnt there) screwed! needless to say, we wouldnt let him and he had to go to the police station and show his documents that he thought he was insured. His insurance was for a polo with a similar number plate F883 and the metro was E883 or something like that, so the police person behind the counter must have not looked hard enough and he got away with it. I think thats how the story went. Anyway, the other car was in the wrong (being on the wrong side of the road) and he had to pay out of his insurance. But my friend was very close to a 6 points and re-do test etc.

tw*t shouldnt have been on the road. Doesent deserve to drive.
agree. he had hit something or even worse someone and the other party would have no return of loss through insurance

NO WAY! Owner can plead to the fact that he thought he was insured & had a license, etc. Thats if he gets charged which he wont. James will be fine IMO.
it wont stand, as the vehicle owner it is your responsiblity to check any documents relating to someone else driving your car. its like trying to say oh but i thought it was a 40mph limit when u get caught doin 40 in a 30

look i am telling everyone this EXACT thing happened to my mate and the bloke who let him drive the car who was sittin next to him had NO punishment whatsoever!

and this was less than 2years ago

I would imagine the DD will get a ban (prob 2 years) and a fine, its hard to tell what will happen to James. As others have said "ignorance is no excuse". But you will probably find it all depends on the attidue of 3 people - the arresting policeman, the prosecutor, and the magistrate.

Absolutely. Plus, if he wasnt far over the limit hell prob. get a much shorter ban and a smaller fine. Ban of 2 years plus is usually for being several times the limit.
