Right!! another new mod so another write up! lol
had my matched inlet fitted with my local mechanic today. firstly i'd like to say that craig (stan*) of 'advanced powertrain developments'(APD) offered me excellent service, and was always quick to reply to emails and give help. the workmanship was of a very high standard and he also sent me an RS inlet :approve: . and was also a little cheaper than competitors. so all in all i was more than happy with his service.
now for the fitted bit. the mechanic i used does all the work for the garage i work for on Saturdays (my step dad) and i originally wanted to take it to a specialist (Rentech, K-tec etc..) but was assured by my step dad and mechanic that he would be cheaper/closer and would take more care. so i ended up taking it to him.
left it there the day and text my step dad during the day asking how he was getting on reply - 'pulling his hair out and with very sore knuckles. Should be done soon though'
not really what i wanted to hear!!!:dapprove:
so i went to pick it up and it turns out he spent 5 hours, yes that’s right 5 hours!!! doing it. and has charged me around £130 cash (i supplied all gaskets). so this pissed me off a little as a specialist could have done it for cheaper. (following rentech quotes etc..)
then i got home and though id have a little look under the hood! craig had scored on each side of the inlet where they should match up to ensure maximum airflow and so there is no 'step', and it turns out the lines aren’t meeting (see pics below) anyone know if this is ok or if its far out of line and so affecting performance??
the engine feels more eager to rev and more punchy, so it has added power however i dont think it was the '6-13hp' that was expected (from what ive read on here, not necessarily what APD quoted) has been achieved although this could be due to the inlets being poorly matched on fitting. if anyone could give opinions on if the matching is ok or if i should take it somewhere to get it realigned??
cheers guys, and thanks for APD for a good service and delivery.
advice to anyone buying a matched inlet - if you aren't competent with mechanics and are no where near the place you are ordering (they usually charge about £40-£50 on top of the matching charge to fit) then be prepared for quite expensive mechanic bills.
