installing vista on external HD?

ive got xp running on my laptop but its running out of space. Ive just got a copy of the new vista and ive bought a 320gb external usb hd.

can i use the external HD to install the new vista and will it work ok?

yes it will work, thats how mine works if the external HD is off, computer wont work...

oh right, i keep the external hd plugged in all the time anyway, and what will happen to all my setting ive got saves on the computer like itunes and the internet and stuff?

ye just switch it on, then might take more time to load than usual,

don't you need to be able to boot from a usb drive to do that though, need to change the boot order in the bios surely?
