Insurance payout question

I've just submitted a claim due to vandal damage to my car.

Can i request that the money is paid directly to me, rather than to a repairer? Im just thinking about this as wondering if I might be best to put the money towards a new car and sell mine as is without getting it repaired. I've not even got a quote yet for the repairs, but im guessing it's going to be around the £2k mark :(

Thanks

Anyone got any ideas on this?? Repair quote has come out at just over £4,600, and I only have an agreed value on the car of £5,000. Even though thats well over the normal 60% value cut-off rate to w/off a car rather than repair, I think its looking like its going to be repaired.

As far as the insurance co are concerned, it must be as cheap for them to w/off the car and pay me the £5k less my excess, and then sell it back to me as it would be for them to repair it

if you argue it (due to rarity for instance, or the car has sentimental value) they may agree to repair it instead of writing it off, however the money will be paid to the garage not yourself, as otherwise it would be open to fraud.

it is normally easier for the insurance to write off the car, but in most cases they wont sell it you back.
