Insuring two cars, the cheapest way yet still legal?

  Works...kind of...
I'm going to be lookin at a BMW shed tomorrow, but it's cheap enough and also looks solid behind the rusty edges.

Obviously I need to insure it but I'm also keeping the Lolver. So what's the best way of going about it?

Try to get both cars on the same policy? Another policy where I pay monthly?

Any experience of people owning two cars simultanesouly would be much welcomed.

Thank you please.

Yeah a lot of companies do multicar polices, Admiral for one. Wether it's any good or not I've no idea.

You could try Admiral for a multicar policy. However, we found that it was cheaper to insure the cars separately when looking last year.

Yep, call your current insurers and see if they will add it on, if not you should look at a company that will do it...as above admiral are good

if you're old enough and had enough driving experience, most companies allow you to drive any car as long as you have the owners permission, and its not tooooo expensive , and there will be an engine size limit

or am i wrong?

You mean DOC? (Drive Other Cars)

That only works if it's insured in someone elses name and they're the registered keeper. Even then most insurers, except Quinn as far as I know, have an age limit of 25 for DOC. I'm 22.

Thanks for the quick advice guys, I'll give it a go tomorrow. Good thing my renewal is up in a month. :)

  Clio 172 Cup
I guess it is age and circumstance dependant but I insure my 172 Cup with Admiral multi-car along with the daily driver and for me it is far cheaper than two individual policies. DOC is fine but most policies only allow the other drivers (unless specifically named) to be 3rd party covered, expensive if it goes wrong.

When I got my second one, my current insurer offered to give me the same NCB discount on both cars even though I was starting from scratch with the second. If I leave I only get the actual number of years accrued obviously.

Worth asking them if they do similar. I'm with Morethan I think.

I've just got two policies with brentachre as the clio is modified and the policy has a 190bhp limit most companies charge a fortune for modifications. They only let me use my ncb on one policy though. i'm paying £1300 for both. If both cars are standard it'd be worth trying the mainstream companies.

They dont have to be insured by the owner, just owned by someone other than yourself.

I lent an old van off my dad, had mot/tax but hadnt been insured for a couple of months. I had an incident with a bus, police gave me producer, and I was covered even though the car was not insured by anyone else... was shitting myself, as I thought I may not of been covered..

if its of any use bell do a flexi policy where you can add DOC for £30 a year. Obviously you cant be the registerd keeper
