interior lighting..

  renault clio 1.4 si 2000
hi everyone! just wanting some electrical help..
finishing off some nice phase 2 door cards with fibre glass builds and some alpine components in them for my mk2 phase 1, and im wantin to light them up! i know its cheesy, but im a bit of a cheesy guy really.. lol! was also wantin some blue spots behind the vents in the dash. ive fitted footwell leds, just spliced into the cig lighter.
the question is, how much can i splice off one source?? and is it even safe?? will my ecu fry? lol. my mechanic laughed at me, and once he'd finished telling me to go get a real car he said to watch out for where i start chopping things! is there a safer way of doing this?
cheers guys! :)

If you stick to LED's everywhere you should be fine as they use hardly any power, you can use as much as the fuse for the cig lighter circuit can take.
