Intermittent misfire: Part Deux

Right, it's back again!

Not seen this problem on here before either?

Car will run fine then suddenly cut out. Sometimes it's smells a bit fuelly. I then can't start it until I've waited 5 minutes or so and then it fires and misfires back into life. Then repeat this process 5 times and that was my 8 mile journey home from town!

Someone has said battery and/or alternator, any advances on those?

I'll try it tomorrow, had an awesome code reader off a mate for the last week and he got it back yesterday!

have you done a compression test?

Not done a compression test, but could be the next call.

I'm basically waiting for this engine to pop so I can put the spare one I have here in. Then rebuild this one with a couple of upgraded parts

I can see why Roy has suggested that, sounds very like its running very rich. Temp gauge unsteady, smoke out the back at all?

Thats what I thought as then the fuel was evaporating and letting it start again if it was flooding the engine!

Its not smoking really, although I didn't look for any before, temp gauge stays normal, just below half.

i mention compression as the symptons are very similar to engines I've worked on that are prone to valve wear. It may be that you have something causing poor sealing of the valves. Worth testing for at least

Yeah gotta say if the usual cts symptoms aren't there then defo compression test, no harm in it!
