Intermittent steering pull after tracking

Hi guys, my 2007 mk3 1.4 dynamique S has developed a steering problem after tracking. It all started about a month ago when I had need tyres on the front and the garage that fitted them said that I needed my tracking doing due to too much toe in after they did this the steering wheel was pointing slightly to the right but was driving perfectly straight. I didn't get a chance to go back to the garage due to working stupid long hours so just got used to the steering wheel slightly off center.

So today I had my MOT at HiQ and got them to do the tracking again so that the steering would be in the correct place but hours of them trying to try my car they had managed to get the steering wheel in the central position but every time you turned right, to go round a roundabout for example the steering wheel would not recoil to the centre but instead go back to the position it was when the first garage had set it to which makes the car turn towards the right unless you actually move it to the centre again. However this doesn't happen all the time and it never happens when turning left (always recoils back).

So my question is why is it intermittently doing this? The guy at HiQ was stumped about it and just said to drive it and see if it improves but I am wary of doing this incase it causes other damages.

Either there's another issue with your suspension/geometery/steering or they've fekked up the job. Hard to say without seeing the actual vehicle though.

Agree with Mick, his translation is spot on.

It won't improve, it will only get worse with time.

Take it to a decent garage.

That's what I felt like he was saying, He did look over the suspension to see if there was anything obvious but nothing caught his eye and the car had the MOT done at the same time so I would of thought if there was anything wrong in that area it would of got picked up? But I'm not 100% familiar with the MOT checks are.

If it was MOT'd at the same place, they can put whatever they like down on the sheet mate and by the sounds of it.. this garage doesn't seem to care too much, they could have just passed it.

I would honestly take it somewhere with a Hunter system and pay for a second, proper opinion.

I have the same car with what sounds like it might be the same problem.

After any sort of steering input the wheel will default back to about 10 degrees right causing the car to drift that way.

There’s also less centring force on the wheel and the car feels more ‘vague’ when turning right than when turning left.

It’s been in for alignment at 3 different garages (2 with hunter systems, one with what looks like lasers and a ruler). All came back with it being spot on and no-one can find anything wrong with the suspension.

I decided to just live with it in the end, but it does make driving the car for any sort of distance on the motorway irritating.

I’d be interested to hear if you manage to get it sorted.

*update*

I have been to another garage to have the car tracked again but the guy said all the reading were already correct and didn't need to alter anything and also didn't know why the car was acting like it is. However I've driven it about 200 motorway miles and it seems to have stopped doing it, I don't know if its temporary or 'fixed itself'
