iPhone only switches on when charging if I use orginal cable, why?

If i run my iPhone flat and wish to charge it, i can only do this if i use the orginal power cable and plug, why?

If i use a USB exetension cable it also won't turn on, but will charge fine if already on.

If i use one i bought from ebay it will charge fine if it's already on.

My old jailbroken 3G used to take 2 days to charge up if run flat

Same happens to me sometimes. Not sure why, mines happened before with 89% battery weird.

its a voltage thing. iphones use 5v

Do you mean using a longer then standard Iphone cable it wont start charging??

No it charges fine if the phones already on, but if it's flat it won't charge at all.

No I mean that non apple USB ports can't always provide enough power. Regardless of cable length.

IT's just a extension cable like this

but it's more like 1m long.

It charges it, if the phone it already on, but not if it's been ran down to 0%
