iPod Classic possibly Fu##ed

Got a Classic and it's about 5 years old or more and I've been using it at work today and just this minute plugged it into the ITunes and now it's got a big red cross on the screen and writing underneath saying go to apple support

Is it worth getting it looked at or worth just getting a new iPod ?

Try putting it into disk mode and connecting it to the computer.

Did see something about the disk drive but wasn't sure what it was n cancelled it. Can't get it back up now tried and sliding the on/off slide n ok and play button at the same time but doesn't want to do anything other than apple logo and the red circle with the x icon
