iPod Connection

Car  Titanium F/F 182
I'm thinking of getting an iTrip so I can play my ipod mini in the car. The one where it sends a signal that your radio picks up. I've found a place selling them on the web (with a uk registered site) for a reasonable price. However, when in Selfridges in the Trafford Centre a guy who works there said they were illegal:nono: as you needed a private radio licence as you are essentially broadcasting a radio station. A guy from the apple shop also said this. What does anybody else know.?. The link below is where I will/would get one from. Surely if they are illegal they shouldn't be for sale.

Thanks

They are technically illegal under some age old radio act, but in reality its a law which is never going to come down on you for using an iTrip.

With that said, my advice is as follows - don't bother with any radio transmission device, as they are absolutely crap and generally as clear as mud.

This leaves three options:

1) Get a tape adaptor (providing you have a tape player) as they are cheaper and much better quality.
2) Get a Dension Ice-link Plus or Connects2 (available from halfords) and enjoy the extra quality and hands free control of the iPod.
3) Get an Alpine HU and iPod kit (also available in other brands).

Thanks Ozzyo99.

Thing is I'm thinking of buying a 182 in the next few weeks. Reading previous threads and not be an electronics whizz i worry aout changing the head unit and loosing the use of the stalk controls. Plus there are threads on here about needing an extra lead.

Can anybody recommend a place in or close to St. Helens, Merseyside where if i get a new head unit they can fit it and make sure everything works. Better still anybody on here that wants to do it.

Like Ozzy says if your getting the 182, the Dension kit works a treat, and still keeps the stalk and display functions.
