Is this stuff really as good as you boy's make out?

After testing on Friday, the wheels took a bashing, taken me all afternoon to try and clean them, almost had to chisel the brake deposits off.

Is it really a case of spray it on, leave and wash off.

It's expensive!

If you clean the wheels off the car, i'll get you some descaling acid. Its the best stuff you'll EVER use. £17 for 5 litres and can be diluted. You just don't want to be cleaning them on the car because it makes calipers and discs really manky after lots of use.

I don't think it's quite designed for super amounts of brake dust. More small spots on the wheels and bodywork.

I may be wrong though!

I found some wonder wheels in the shed, didn't touch it. can't be doing with 4hrs cleaning wheels after every race. Got better things to do, but do want them to look clean.

It is a superb product!

Just get a bottle for a tenner and see! , If it works wonders then you can bulk buy it although it's still not cheap!

Clean them then use IronX. That's when it works it's magic.

I'll take some pictures this week of before/after with this Acid I use. It's insane.

But that's cleaning them twice, or is it just a rinse off after X?

It may be expensive, but don't forget, I only do about 7 races a year.

Try some Wonder Wheels - Hot wheels.

Tescos filling stations are selling for £1.73 a bottle. Really is worth a try.

Spray on, leave for 5 mins then give them a brush and rinse off!

Yeah iron x is rinse off mate. Clean with the brush etc with an actual strong wheel cleaner then just a light spray with IX leave for 10, watch it bleed...

Tried itt myself for the 1st time the othwr week on my F1's bloody brilliant stuff.. Even Dan asked what it was as he's got that really strong wheel cleaner..Sorry about spelling etc I'm on my phone

It's brilliant stuff, my wheels had brake dust etched into them and it shifted it no problem.. Nothing else would touch it.

Haha have to agree it certainly doesn't smell like cherries.

The worst smell I have ever smelt is when we was doing a conservatory and had to move a rain water waste pipe but the owner of the house had clearly been using it to piss into all summer and because it was partially blocked when we disturbed it the smell released was so intense you wouldn't believe. He loved his cider too :dead:.

I'll never forget that day, oh and I have worked on blocked sewage pipes before and it was still worse than them for some reason.

It is very good stuff on normal road car brake dust and no need for scrubing. With my track clio with RC 6 pads it cleaned them up very well with some scrubing but didn't really touch the baked on brake dust. Im going to try some brick cleaning acid like what Daniel has said and see if that can shift it.
Even tho there track cars it's still nice to have clean wheels lol

fairy power spray tony, trust me! spray it on, leave it 30min to 60min, no scrubbing at all, jet wash = done, don't even have to get you hands dirty!

its the only thing that works on hardcore brake dust, all this detailing monkey spunk stuff won't touch it

Right, I'll try some Hot wheels and then some of Freds fairy dust stuff.

I just hate having to send away for stuff, if I could go down the retail park, pick up X go home and do it, all would be good.

Best place to get X from is the next question.

Thought I'd google it to see if there's any chance it can damage wheels and found this though...

Its a degreaser so its gonna shift loads of stuff - trouble is its also caustic too so it`ll will have attacked the laquer on your wheels.....give um a few coats of sealent. If you keep using it your alloys will start to go a yellowy colour and over a longer period they`ll end up pourous!

Everyone raves on about Iron X but i find it bloody expensive for what it is, £10.50 for 500ml and its from here.

I use Purple Rain from Autobrite Direct, even though the same price, I have found that I used alot less product to get the same if not better results.

I used Purple Rain on a 14yro freelander wheel that has only ever seen soapy water and a sponge, 5 mins later and it was running, then jet washed and done, back to silver again.

really?! ffs. i checked every tesco i came across but they were all out of stock. wilko did it for £10 for 500ml iirc... so i bought a litre of iron x for £15 lol

I have some but have only ever used it prior to snow foaming which probably isn't its correct use, it doesn't change colour like iron 'X' though so hard to tell its working. I'm gona do a full detail soon so I will let it soak in after using tardis and claybar.

I bought some brick/descailing acid on Dan's recommendation and it's serious stuff. Cleaned up ten year old brake dust no dramas for me.

I wouldn't want to be using it every week though- it f**king burnt when I got it on my skin. Lol.

I'll have to try some brick acid got a few big tubs of it in the garage so worth a punt. Just hope it doesn't eat the laquer I have seen how it works on concrete and mortar lol strong stuff.

I'm not just on about brake dust, I mean chunks of brake pad, that has stuck to the wheels like glue. They are even hard to pick off with a fingernail.
