Is fitting ESP and TC to my 172 feasible and would I want to?

My phase 2 172 doesn't have ESP or TC. I am assuming these pieces of electronic trickery are part of the ECU. Would it be possible to retro-fit them?
Would I actually want to/need to?

Personally i wouldnt want to be without it in bad conditions, i reckon ESP has saved me 2/3 times this winter on wet/icy roundabouts.

But given the weather is improving, the tarmac will be getting better - i'd say don't bother now the worst weather is past us (hopefully).

LOL, I knew you would come up with a hardcore answer. I'm not that bothered about it really. I am just curious as to how dificullt it would be and wether they would actually improve the driving experience.

Racelogic would be a fair idea, you get launch control with the traction control kit.

Great fun.

Well you have to really be TRYING TO SLIDE to turn a car on traction control sideways.

The ESP on my old A3 saved me a few times in unexpected situations. The ESP system on the clio seems to be set to wait longer before it acts and I think this leads to it being less effective.

I have racelogic now which is very fast to cut/release power, but if you were to get the ass out mid corner it would do nothing for you.

My ESP light went mad tonight, after I hit a pothole on a sharp bend.

Whether it was keeping the rear in-place... I'll never know, but I was fully-prepared to catch it (I suspected it would want to come round).

I normally have it off (when I'm in a hurry) because it does strange things to the handling.

It's probably good in those unexpected "OH SH*T" moments... when you're not totally on the ball.

to retro fit it, you would need off side drive shaft and sensor , abs computer , ECU , full front wiring loom

I love all you hardcore boys...

"I like to know im in control!!"
"Dont need it ever, im too good of a driver!"

Its nothing to do with how good of a driver you are, on these roads (round here at least) if you hit a patch of ice and your back starts to slide mid corner - it will help you regardless of how elite you think you are. It's not foolproof and its not something i'd solely rely upon, but it is a safety net when all else fails, or your caught napping.

My 172 decided to Cup itself for 2.5months when my ABS sensor gave up, this left me with ABS/TC/ESP while warranty work was being granted. During that time we had some nasty snow and ice (back in December/Jan) and i can't say as i enjoyed driving my car on a skidpan with other cars on the road, 172bhp in a FWD car with no TC/ESP/ABS on icy roads isn't something i'd want to do weekly - good driver or not.

think its expensive to retro fit it..
Its one of those things, if you've never had it, you'll not miss it

I find with my cup, if i dont put my foot to the floor it doesnt go as fast and puts out a lower bhp..humm does the 182 not do that?

I wouldnt bother with esp/tc..its odd.. Abs can be useful tho

I don't mean just roads with patches of ice, obviously in any conditions such as that, lower speed and slower steering is a thing of necessity as TC/ESP won't save you from bad driving, but it will be less punishing should you hit something you didn't account for.

The conditions i spoke of was back in december with the slow, when it became compacted on the roads and on trying to go up a hill in my 172 without my ABS/ESP/TC not working, well it was a nightmare, was like a skidpan and just couldn't get any traction what so ever. I'd have felt safer with my ABS working and TC would have been nice too.

Eitherway im glad i've got the options.
