Is it true?

You can get it done at any main dealer not just reno without a problem, and you can take it to any other garage that follow the Renault service plan using genuine parts. A few places specialise in this like Lex Auto centre. It can create issues though if you get a problem so be warned! better to beat the renault dealer down on price. imo

So many on here have problems with warranty claims & wonder why.

If your dealer has not seen your car for 2-3 years why should they put themselves out to fight for warranty work when the time comes??

Through my experience it differs from dealer dealer - Renault warranties are touch and go. It really depends on the skill and experience of the service team at the dealership. I spent 3 years working in a Renault service dept and i very rarely had a claim rejected.

i got my car done at a local garage. guy used genuine parts, and put the invoice numbers in my service book just in case.

My mate runs his own small garage and he used to do my work with renault parts.

Never had a problem

Interesting term to use! But quite correct!

Renault need to learn that this is costing them customers.

Because it is a condition of their franchise. Just because a customer buys a car from them they do not have rights of service and neither they should. They should be looking to their pricing structure and customer care if people are going elsewhere for service work.

Main dealers can't afford to charge minimal labour rates though.

I personally didn't have a problem using Renault for servicing, I just said 'I don't want any extra work doing without you talking to me first'.

They would always give the car it's yearly wash and vacuum too.

Took it to an independant once because they were offering £40 off the dealer price, I suppose that's fair enough, but they didn't wash the car, they didn't offer a pickup/collection, nor a loan car for the day and they put some crappy sticker in my window.

Because Renault says aslong as the car is serviced according to the service plan, at a VAT garage using Renault parts then they will fix it under warranty. If they dont want to fix it under warranty if they dont service your car, then they should say so TBH.

Its all down to personal choice which is good, it is a free market.
I would personally rather wash my own car and having served my time in a main dealership many years ago I wouldnt want someone else driving it.

I can also see no reason for dealers being competitive in the labour rates.

Garages are a rip off.BMW for example are now charging roughly 90 quid an hour where my mate charges 30 quid, plus theres all the money they make from people buying new and trading in.

They could be much fairer with there rates, but i suppose there just making money

Sounds exactly like most of renault expierences. Except they usually damaged it at the same time.
