Is Stripping the car bad?

My car is very civilised even stripped though. No rattles, minimal extra exhaust noise ( which i luv anyway ) and apart from that it drives just like a full interior'd car wud.

The rear seats are easy to take out for track days ,it only takes a few minutes The base cushions only slot in anyway so they can come out in a few seconds and be put safe. I use a rear strut brace on trackdays and if I'm going for a blast but have recently removed it to give some space in the boot again. It only takes a few minutes to refit it as it fits over the top of the shock absorbers and doesnt require any extra mounting holes to secure it. The rest of the time the interior stays in. Always remove the spare wheel on the track though. It could cause some serious damage if it came adrift if you had an incident on the track.

there is no point stripping the car unless you are going to re-setup the suspension and brake balance to match the new weight distribution ... FACT.

even mpg is only marginally better.

pointless for actually going faster, only point is to make you feel like you are going faster


on uk roads the twitchy light backend actually makes you lose confidence aswell as making braking underload or angle worse

As a comparason, at the Pod after many runs on many different days my old mk1 ran 14.4 @98 mph as an average.

After taking out the following:
Rear seats
Rear door cards
spare wheel
parcel shelf
boot carpet
interior carpet

Still in were std front seats, front door cards, roof lining, dash etc

Average was then 14.1 @ 101, with best being in the high 13's

So makes a difference in a straight line

I know for a fact that mine turns in sharper and feels more agile no doubt.

Besides my roll over bar is 34kg and the Nos tank is a good 15kg, all over the rear wheels so weight distribution is as std.

I stripped out my 5 Turbo and had all new suspension and re setup, was great fun, but I had a 1.4 clio dynamique as a daily drive. couldn't put up with it all the time.

The thing that bugged me about it is how bad it all looks, fixing holes and brackets, braces every whereand with bits and peices looks tacky. I ended up using carbon and acoustic carpet to line the interior so it didn't look like a mechano set.

Reading your posts, it's almost like your trying to justify what you've done, so for that reason I'd leave it as it is and carry on with the projec.

For me though, I think you've been gradually doing a bit here, bit there, aiming for some kind of ultimate goal of what you've envisioned. You're probably nearly where you want to be with it and I think you're just having doubts (bottling-it, if you like)
Stick with it, afterall, you can use Vickys sensible car (or twingo) if you need a bit of comfort.

Lol, he'll have trouble I've only got the twingo until Saturday. My car was stripped before his and with bucket seats like concrete on long journeys it's far from sensible

But seriously though ben it looks good as it is and the strippage goes well alongside the NOS and the cage. You have all the bits to put it back to standard to avoid issues when it comes to selling up so I fail to see the problem with leaving it as it is, especially as it's hardly a daily driver. You pansy

Lol yeah i am trying to justify it 2bh, sometimes i luv it and other times i feel like i've ruined the car.

But seeing as its a strictly weekend car anyway i think im gonna keep it as it is.

+ i cant be arsed to get the seats out the loft lol.

BTW vix we got some more stuff to stick up there when your home, prepare for broken backs! lol

My 106 gti is stripped out in the back and carpet'd.
It lookes much better plus i never use back seays so why have them??
Stops people asking for lifts!
