is the pipercross viper any good??

  1/4 mile 14.9 @ 92mph
I have a k&n fitted to my cup that was on it when i bought it two weeks ago. is the pipercross any good because the k&n makes the car really hesitant and feels flat below 5k rpm!

I dont want to pay silly money for a ITG, also is the viper as loud as a open cone filter?

Thanks, Kev

the hesitence will be because you're drawing hot air in, especially bad with an open filter mounted where the air box would have been as it's right behind the radiator. K&N mounted in a cooler area would fix quite a lot.

The viper is good if you get the cold air feed fitted to the front of it. I've seen a few people run them open in the bay, with no pipe to the front, and this will have no benefit whatsoever

I'm running a viper on the 172 atm because I had one lying around.

They are ok. Noise wise, you can expect a very slightly toned down but better induction noise than your cone filter.
With a good caf you will imediately feel a difference (especially on a warm day)

The only thing is, the CAF is hard to route. It's easier on a cup due to the lack of AC, but it's still not a walk in the park. You need to try and keep the caf as straight as possible too, kinks in it will do you no favours.
Overall no performance difference is decernable from the standard setup
