Is the Shiftlight the Bible for shifting?

  VaVa
The shift light is fuckall to do with the optimum. as said a thousand times it's merely a warning that the limiter is fast approaching.

Any half decent driver should be able to feel when the power is beginning to drop off and learn when to change to drop you to roughly where your peak torque is.

No idea. Not everything Renault do makes sense!

If it was optimum for peak power, why does it come on lower when your car is cold? It's merely to stop you hitting the limiter.

I agree with Pecan, its swings and roundabouts. Change later, higher in rev band of next gear or change earlier and have slight bit more torque but lower down the rev band. Dont think you'd notice seconds dropping off a 1/4 mile time through changing gear 1-200 RPM before or after the light......

I've only had the shift light on once, but it definitly lost power by then, need to change just before it comes on.

If the limiter kicks in earlier when the car is cold, of course the optimal gear change is gonna be lower.

But you were saying it was the optimum point to change for power. Does the car make less power when it's cold? No. It's to stop you hitting the limiter. That is all. This was discussed years ago and verified as being just a 'look out here's the limiter' light.

There was a road test where they did 0-60, 0-100 etc. In the intermediate readings of the 0-100 time the time to 60 was slower than the time recorded on the 0-60 run. This is because you need to hang on to 2nd gear for slightly too long to get a good 0-60. For 0-100 you need to change earlier to get back into the torque as the power tails off after 6800.
