Is there a correct way to remove battery?



I know it may seem a simple task but I've read stories on here where people are unable to start their car afterwards. Is there any set way of doing it on a 172 or any other car with immobiliser?

I removed mine a few months back. Just removed the ECU bracket, and then the clamp for the battery, and removed the terminals, and took it out.
Did the same in reverse when I put it back in, and had no troubles, apart from the alarm did a funny thing when I first locked it, but I unlocked it and locked it again and has been fine since.

Just disconnect the positive first when removing and re-attach last.

I'm probably wrong.

But it won't mess up the alarm, but it will beep once when arming the alarm.

p.s. there is a clamp to undo down the RHS of battery also.

i thought you disconnect negative last and when putting back on put negative on first so its earthed

Mate of mine was telling me a story of how a guy wearing a watch with a metal strap welded himself to the wing of the car and recived massive burns all through touching positive and negative at the same time with a spanner. All batteries are evil :evil: :D

I always take the neg off first as its easiest to make a clean break on doing so (what you dont want is it arcing as you are faffing about trying to wiggle it out), but it doesnt actually matter which, both are breaking the circuit anyway, obviously with the live though you need to be careful not to ark out, as if you touch the ecu case or similar with the spanner you are causing a short, so for that reason as well, neg first makes more sense, but if you are careful either is fine.
