Why would you want a freeview box that upscales?

Upsclaing DVD players is fair enough but why would you want to upscale something that's been compressed, quality wise, to within an inch of it's life.

When I mate some mates up in Manchester on Friday, one of the guys (who has the same tv as me) has some sort of scaler (several hundred pounds new like) and swears that upscaling Sky/Freeview has a significant impact (to the upside).

You can spend some serious wedge on a scaler.

Cheaper ones make some difference but not really worth the outlay when you consider Sky HD is £299
