Is this an easy fix?

  S3, Polo
A Ph1 172 car I'm looking at has an issue with the central locking. It works from the inside of the car but not with the key fob.

To my mind this could just be a dead battery or a dead fob.

Any other possible causes and is a new fob mega-bucks?

  330i. E30 Touring.
A new key is around £150 from Reno.

New battery is about £2 from Sainsburys.

What key is it? Mk2's, use a CR2016 3V battery.

  PH1 172
Get the battery from ebay as you can get a pack of 5 CR2016 for less than £2 delievered and mine came next day when ordered in the morning

I had the same issue. I found out that the battery was being pushed out.

Had similar problem on my 182. Turned out to be the fuse in the glove box had a dirty connection. Just whipped it and bobs your uncle.

I had a prob with the button on the circuit board in the fob and the mini momentary swich had come off (could tell because when you push it it does not make the click sound) so I just resolderd it back on put some new battery's in and away we go.
This had happened to both remotes.
