Is this brake fluid ok?

do you know what's in it at the moment?
if it's just for topping up and you've nothing fancy in there atm, i'd just buy a regular fluid from a motorfactors; or buy a couple of bottles of that and change the fluid

i havnt got a clue whats in it at the min, its only for topping up, i will be changing the fluid when i do the pads, but as the front pads are only 10% worn according to renault a month ago that wont be for a while.

I would assume that the standard fluid is Dot4 so yes you can top up with CR dot4. CR4 is probably the the best and longest lasting Dot fluid. You shouldnt mix different dot no's though.

i will just buy that then, it should be standard fluid i hope. Would it be worth me bleeding the system as i don't no whats in?

if you're going to bleed it, may as well change it all at the same time. that fluid's not particularly cheap - bit of a waste if you're just using it to top up an old/unknown fluid

yeah maybe best if i just bleed and change the whole lot, that way i no whats in it in the future.

Do a full fluid change, imo.

Especially as it's probably knocking on for five years old now.

yeah i have owned the car for 10months, its a 55 reg so probs never been changed. I noticed the other day when fitting ym samco that is was just on minimum level so needs doing. I have sen the guide in here on to do it so will that. do you need to remove the pads to chane the fluid? or can you just use the bleed valve?

don't need to remove anything other than front wheels to be able to get at the front bleed nipples. best to make sure the nipples are all free before starting

with ABS cars, it's important not to allow the fluid level in the res to drop below bottom of res, as that allows air into the m/c, which confuses the ABS valve gizmo

Leave the pads in.

Get an easy bleed kit if you're on your own. Brilliant bit of kit.

Start with the wheel furthest away from the resevoir, and just bleed it through until the fluid looks clean!

Easy peasy.

so you only need to bleed it from side? i have seen the guide by burp looks easy enough, how much is an easy bleed kit?

Easibleed are about £15/Halfords; the seals go off though; so don't count on it a second time, after it's been sat in the garage/shed for 6months

order doesn't matter much but should be nsr/osf/osr/nsf (diagonally split system and start furthest from master cylinder)

right so am i right in staying that i need to bleed all four corners then, can't i just bleed it through the one bleed valve? think i will just go with getting a mate to pump the pedal saves money.

yep, you'll need to bleed all four. Easibleeds are good if you can get them to seal ok. i'm on my second and have had to revert to the assistant method though, due to them degrading

so how do i bleed the rear then is it the same as the front? in the guid eits says you dont need to remove the rear wheel, but where is the bleed point?

with the rears, you can get at the bleed screws without having to raise the back end, or remove the wheels

make sure they're all free before starting though (the rears, in particular, have a tendency to have seized in and there's a danger of snapping them if they have)

ok so some WD40 first and let it soak in to get to the thread loosen it up abit. where about are they on the rear thoug if you dont need to remove the wheel, are they near the calliper?

ok nice one guys, currently bidding on a easy bleed on ebay, if i dont get it then its get a mate or missus to help.lol.
