Try giving it a bit more stick. That spring is responsible for centering the gearstick. MIght just be a bit sticky?

Ive tryed that it will only select reverse when my mate put it in reverse in the car an I get underneath an push it the rest of the way

Can't the cable on the lifter/gearstick bit be adjusted??

Pop the gear gator off inside the car and have a mooch

Sure you havent just misaligned the rod that goes from the actual lever in the car to the bit on the box, its just a 13mm bolt to loosen it and adjust it.

I normally put the box in reverse, and then put the lever in the reverse position and then tighten it up, then test and adjust if required.

We havnt touched it.when fitting the dogbone mount we couldn't get reverse the notices that spring had sheared off so took it off an I've just got round to replacing an once fitted it won't go in reverse but I can try it

Your engine may be sitting slightly differently now though, so not touching it might mean its now not correct.

Just try adjusting it.
