Is this normal?

Ive got a 1.2 16v dynamique just looked under the oil cap, and there was alot of white gunge is it normal?

my gf's car had this mate i thoughve it was head gasket,but i put some flush through,gave it an oil change,cleaned out the rocker covr and breather pipes,put some thinner oil in and gave it the biggest raggin of its life lol and now its cleared

Deffo looks like condensation in the engine to me, it can be a yellow and coffee ish colour. I used to have the same problem with my golf GTI. Its caused mostly by short trips, and happens this time of year a lot when its damp and cold. A few big runs getting the engine stinking hot can help, otherwise dont worry about it too much, just clean the cap now and then (as long as it it condensation that is).....good disclaimer!

ps could also be water in the oil, a sure sign the head gasket is having problems

Hope its not head gasket (under warenty?), its only done 17k recently i have only been using it for short journeys, theres no water in oil just had a check .
