ITG Performance filter

  2008 Golf GTI Edition 30

Just fitted an ITG foam filter to my mk2 172.

mmmmm, thats a nice induction roar.
Im sure the pickup is better as well.

Also followed the advice of some of the guys here, and disconnected the feed So it bypasses the narrow air feed.

Where the air feed goes into the air box. Bottom corner near the battery.

So the air box draws the air in directly, rather than thru that constricting pipe.

There was a discussion on it here, the other day.

I was going to add a ;) and insinuate it was a smutty comment but for once in my life I decided not to.

I was going to use the word tug, but changed that also.

If you disconnect the air feed youll just suck air in from the engine bay, which maybe ok in the current climate, but when the weather warms up youll lose performance...

Sounds nowt like a proper induction kit either!

I did this last July/August, Did all kinds of tests (non scientific lol) and the area were talking about never seemed to have hot air there, Its reasonably shielded

Even on the hottest days in summer the throttle response always seemed better and the increase in induction noise is noticeable

The standard pipe that connects to the airbox is total and utter sh*te IMO, My 2nd hand vacuum cleaner has a better quality pipe FFS

You could either replace that section of pipe with flexible hose or remove the pipe and run a 1m length flexible hose direct to the bumper, of course either plugged into airbox or 1cm away from airbox depending on your opinion on the hot-air debate, All I can say is it worked for me. My wife can vouch for that, she def noticed better throttle pickup.
