I did this last July/August, Did all kinds of tests (non scientific lol) and the area were talking about never seemed to have hot air there, Its reasonably shielded
Even on the hottest days in summer the throttle response always seemed better and the increase in induction noise is noticeable
The standard pipe that connects to the airbox is total and utter sh*te IMO, My 2nd hand vacuum cleaner has a better quality pipe FFS
You could either replace that section of pipe with flexible hose or remove the pipe and run a 1m length flexible hose direct to the bumper, of course either plugged into airbox or 1cm away from airbox depending on your opinion on the hot-air debate, All I can say is it worked for me. My wife can vouch for that, she def noticed better throttle pickup.
