  Shed.
Quiet you old fart, you have yet to convert me.

Can't afford one ?? but looking into getting a 197 ?? Hmm, okaaay.

running costs/practical-ness (lol i invented a word)

Its running a vee thatd kill me, wouldnt be able to insure it, pay the petrol or service it.

PMSL!!! Cliosport logic....

"OH BUT ITS THE RUNNIN COSTS!"

Yawn yawn...What an extra fifteen every tank...boohoo! ;)

errrr tyres, servicing, insurance, £££ if you dent something, £££££ if something breaks out of warranty!

Rear tyres are about £100 -150 each for the proper Michelin's. Servicing, apart from the cambelt it's not that bad really.
Insurance is under £700 for me.

I didn't say for me, it's no more expensive than a Meg to run..;)

My insurance is £300

Im looking at a poxy 197 BHP 4 pot hatchback with a 2L engine in it. I can afford to run and insure on of those without being skint. A 3L V6 (or is it 3.5 ?) with 255bhp. I wont be able to afford one without breaking the bank.

Doubt there is all that much difference really

Anyway i cant drive another MK2 PH2 style car lol. Either a 197 R27 or a Honda CTR GT.

Insurance Group 20 for the V6
Insurance Group 15 for the197
Insurance Group 17 for the CTR.

lol that was old Rick.

I could buy the car but i seriously doubt i could afford the running costs, it would be unrealistic for me to even think i could.

I don't agree a 197 will cost as much as a Vee, not running wise.

5 Years old this was my service bill and not unusual to what most have done I expect, maybe mine came at once but here goes..

Clutch Kit: 184.97 (not required, peace of mind)
Plugs : 89.16
CamBelt : 331.71
Pollen Filter: 15.08
Clutch Slave Cylinder: 85.30 (not required, peace of mind)
Water Pump: 84.51
Fuel Filter: 14.16
Air Con Recharge: 60
Rear Discs : 225
Rear Pads: 68
Drive Shaft Bearing: 21
Oil(s) : 68
Labour: 562

Plus a few other things and VAT, total bill was £2,211.88 with an MOT passed.

Now a 197 will never cost that much, but its worth it. People moan about running costs but compared to most cars that get the same attention its cheap.

Apart from the discs, pads and MOT, the rest was what is recommended as part of the Cambelt change, get the clutch done when the engine is out. Saves 10 hours labour if it goes before the cambelt needs doing again.

Same here pretty much. I too had the clutch done, had the plugs changed too (thought while it's being taken apart i'd get all the stuff out of the way)

Makes sense really. Hopefully, fingers crossed the next 5 years will be nothing more than tyres and brakes.

I did have the power steering pump go not long ago. Didn't fail but was rattling. That was a few quid.

Heres hoping mate.

I don't find that mine costs an awful lot more to run than my 182 apart from the extra £300 in insurance. But I've been lucky so far and have had no problems. From what I've heard people say who have owned a 197, the mpg isn't that great on them either!

I really don't think the vee is as expensive to run as everyone thinks. Not saying it's cheap, but it's certainly not as bad as I was expecting.

TBF, over a year (12kmiles) the vee will be a fair bit more expensive. 20mpg vs 33mpg, gp20 vs gp16, servicing costs, tyres (more expensive on the 255's due to larger wheels), road fund licence. When you work it out, petrol alone is just over £1000 more, and thats at current prices! I would say roughly £1500 more to run a vee over an average year (mileage wise).

Good to read some unbiased report on the vee. its definatly going to be my next car, only use the cup at weekends anyway and the insurance is only £20 more a year, just need to widen the drive I think lol

If yours was a good colour and you didnt have a crap plate, it'd be perfect, Scotland!

Whats wrong wi the colour? IMO it's still better than liquid...If Illiad was rare then the roles would be reversed.

Plate, i had a full sized plate and prefer this so....Yeh...Blow me?
