Well Im guessing those are what are on this setup: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5786930443&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3ARTQ%3AUK%3A1&rd=1http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5786930443&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3ARTQ%3AUK%3A1&rd=1It just would be perfect for me because I live in an area where I cant have speakers on show. If you guys think the speakers are a waste of money then I wont buy it.

lol i had a pair of those 6x9s they didnt like 340wRMS each:D

believe me, they are not worth the money

1 they are jbl
2 they are full range speakers (not good in the rear)

and most importantly, THEY ARE 6x9s, thus meaning, they are gash!!!!

i live in an area, quite possibly, worse for car crime than most on here, ive never had a problem with having aftermarket speakers in the car, reason being, i dont drive around with the stereo blaring so all the local scum can tell ive got ICE in the car, and secondly, because every bit of work is done properly, front speakers mounted behind OE grille, sub and amp in boot, and head unit face removed every time i leave the car

those who have ICE stolen are invariably the sort of people who advertise the fact they have £££ of audio in their car

i have had two sets and they were very good! sounded better than the pioneer ones i used to have and if u go into ripspeed/halfords, things like rockford etc arent always the best! i have had 2 full JBL systems in, and if i ever put another system in a car, i would always consider JBL.Nothing wrong with them at all! i had plenty of comments on how good the sound quality was and its Db level! :devilish:

Well Im not building a competition level ICE system, just want clear sound at a slighty higher level than the distortion point of the clios standard speakers.

You can vouch for them Clarkie?

ive got a cheap set of comps running from my hu and they sound a whole lot better than any full range 6x9s ive heard

  2005 Impreza WRX STI

i had a pioneer stereo with pioneer door speakers, jbl amp,jbl sub in a box, and jbl 6x9 and it sounded awesome! a lot better than several of my mates cars who had spent more on "better " manufacturers equipment. I could vouch

Well worst case scenario is that I pay slightly too much for a stealth shelf; but I cant see how brand 6x9s would be worse than the standard mk1 speakers. Bryan if they honestly would be worse quality than the standard speakers then Id like to be told - no point me wasting money.

its almost impossible to be a worse quality speaker than a standard renault fitment

but for the money id buy a decent set of components (as above) and fit them in the front doors

coupled with a half decent head unit, should be all you need for a basic decent sounding system

component speakers mate, ran off a x over. 1x tweeter and 1 door speaker

them 6x9 are not worse than your standard speakers. u could run them off your head unit and they would still be ok!

  Valver Lookalike Mk1 Ph3

Tweeter?

Think Ive got a lot to learn about ICE lol, so glad I found this forum :D.

Can you fit components into the standard speaker slots and cover them over, or will I need to widen the holes?

a tweeter is the little tiny speakers what are very high pitch mate. usually sit on top of the dash! componemnts are a combination of high pitch (tweeter) and a bit of mid range and bass (door speaker) the x over is run off an amp usually and supplys the tweeter and door speaker

dont pay more than £35 for em, thats how much they are @ your local Motor World, and for the cash you would probably struggle to get better 6x9s

jus wanted to stress that, because for the ideal sound stage, you dont want 6x9s in your car, you want good front speakers and a sub in the boot, you dont even need any rear speakers to be honest, i didnt and i bet you wouldnt have even known if you sat in my car, i work at Motor World and not a single customer who sat in my car realised i didnt have any rear speakers until i told them

  Valver Lookalike Mk1 Ph3

No rear speakers? Sounds good to me - can you list your setup?

Or any1 else that knows =P.

This site has been rly helpful to me, Ill def become a member once the server is sorted.

yup no rear speakers, i had, planet audio front comps running off a Phoenix Gold Octane R 2 channel amp, and 2 12" PG Octane R subs running off a Phoenix Gold Octane R monoblock amp

my new setup is unfitted at the moment but ive gone to less to save weight and free up some boot space, kept the front components, got a Phase RS4 amp and a Phase 10" highgrade sub

  Valver Lookalike Mk1 Ph3

Sounds good but I think Ill go for a less expensive option of 4 speakers off the headunit and a sub in the back.

Which brings me to my next question, I need to keep my boot space - so whats a good 8" sub?

well i have an excellent Boston Acoustics 8.5 LF Pro sub, sitting in my room, as i no longer put ICE in my cars

80 + p&p its yours

retailed at 200 new

If you need an amp also I hav a Phoenix Gold Octane R 2.5:2 hanging around which is brand new. Very nice amp just thougt itd be useful if you plan on running any kit of an amp

6x9s are ok if what you are after is a fill of everything. so a bit of bass, bit of mid, some treble all from the same drivers and in such a way that it fills the car. The only problem with all this is that you lose sound quality - esp with 6x9s as cheap as those.

I have those exact speakers in my Auto-Acoustics stelth shelf. In my humble (not expert) opinion they sound absolutely fine and are a MASSIVE improvements over the 5.25" speakers.

Over the stock speakers they obviously will improve. If you maybe, however, will consider upgrading kit like this in the future, then they might not be the way to go.

They wont sound as good as any aftermarket components with a sub until you go for very expensive 6x9s!

  Civic Type-R

I used to have those JBLs in my old clio. Sounded good imo and went well loud running off an amp. Dont see what some people on here have against them.

the fact the quality given by almost every 6x9 under the price if at leats 150 is appalling.

They are a rip off most of the time as companies give misleading wattage ratings and often the driver is made to a ridiculously low quality

  172 Cup

Id hardly say the quality is appalling at all. Maybe compared to 16 12" subs, 10 Amps and half a dozen power caps for good measure but in the real every day world they sound absolutely fine.

  One with a few more

Compared to 16 12" subs there will be no comparison, lol! streetbass and SPL is a whole different ball game. Those 6x9s will not evcen come close to any set of components over £100, and Even a £50 pair fomr halfords will probably reproduce sound much better than them

Power caps are useless pieces of kit, btw, hence why very few show cars use them

You are trying to compare two very different types of audio reproduction. It is much fairer to compare them to components - or even coaxials!.

  Valver Lookalike Mk1 Ph3

PMed Bryan.

I have friends with 6x9s in rear, coaxials in the front doors and a 10" sub in the back - it sounds sh*te to be honest, its virtually all bass - mids and highs are just a whisper.

  Clio Mk1 Hybrid

i hated them 6x9s there cheap for a reason!! there ok if your not using a sub tho sound slightly better amped. i have kenwood components all round and a 12" rockford fosgate sub and it sounds way better than when i had the 6x9s also doesnt look crap having huge speakers in your shelf, looks proper stealth with components

Dave

  Skoda Fabia vRS

they fit the purpose they are for, but if your after developing a system with a proper sound stage and good quality, you dont want 6x9s in your car
