that means you have the magnetic lasso selected, you want the polygonal lasso, to get the selection below click on hold on the corner of the lasso box

alter the feather from 0px to 1px or 2px this with smooth the edge of the selection and make it less jaggerdy or simply duplicate the layer and use the erase tool (rubber icon) and rub it out, with the eraser if you hold shift it will contect the point where you click

Thanks i am doing the duplicate layer way thanks very much for the help mate and the websites are a great help

no worries mate, if you are using the duplicate layer and eraser method becarefull as to what brush you have selected, as some have softer edges and are more likely to pick up the background

heres a few of my chops if you interested

you can also use imageready which comes with photoshop or is built-in in cs3 to do animations :)

its takes alot ov time to get stuff rght when doing cars up, Lowering is the easiest part tho :) wheels are a nightmare lol.

  Flame Red Delight
yea i see from some pictures that wheels seem to be very hard to place and how do you lower the car then?

you see that Orange/red line goin round the arch around the whole picture then,(mine's untidy due to rush job) well use the lasso and do exactly that but try and get it as close to the body as you can and around the top part of the picture, this gets the top half of the red lin to come down. to move the top part use the small point to drag the picture down till your happy..

sorry iv got rid of photoshop a while back but this is easy to remember :)

yea its really good btw very advanced. James thanks very much for all your help i am very impressed with your skills and hopefully i can teach myself how to do these things to i just need to learn the basics then i will pick it up i am sure.

if you use the path tool you can cut out much more accuratly than using the lassoo tool.

basically to do stuff on cars the tools you need to learn are layers, layer masks and the clone tool.

Once you have mastered them you can start to learn a lot more, i'd start by doing stuff like lowering the car by cutting the car onto a new layer and using the clone tool to erase where the car was on the old layer, then lower the new layer down to lower the car. being able to do that is anice way to learn the most common tools for photoshopping cars.

not a bad shop at all that winter pic, i wouldnt be too overwealmed by looking at that pic it's not that complexwhen you look into it all you need to do to create a picture like that is master layers.

at a guess i'd say that the winter / global warming scene is actually only made up from 10 layers maximum.

another tool to learn which i forgot before was the free transform tool (ctrl - t) i think (i use a mac so shortcuts are different lol)

The thing about photoshop is that; there are like a million different ways to do the same things. Just gotta mess about really.
