Just got this E-Mail from K-Tec

  Megane RS 275 Trophy
No good for me because I have a 172 but could be OK for one of you there guys:-

We are currently looking for someone with a 1.2 16v Clio Mk2 who is
interetested in having a larger replacement engine fitting. As our own car
is not available for us to carry out the work we are prepared to offer 1
person the chance to have a Renault Clio 172 engine supplied and fitted
into their car for £2000+vat. This price will include the coost of the
engine, gearbox, ecu, wiring loom and all the other parts needed to get
the 172 engine into the car and running properly. It would not include the
cost of parts such as a replacement exhaust system but I am sure we could
find one of our second hand systems about if needed.

We would need the car for around 4 weeks to carry out all the work and
test the car. This price represents a saving of around £700-£1000 less
than what we hope the final conversion cost will be.

Like we said we are only after 1 car and this offer will not be repeated
once the first car has been done. If you are interested please either
e-mail us at info@k-tecracing.com or call us on 01202 820800.

Regards.

The K-Tec Raing team.

I think it would be a better idea to sell the 1.2. With the money from that and the extra £2500 you've saved from not having a conversion and go buy a 172. It would be a nightmare to insure anyway.

Depends on the insurance compnay this threads been cleaned up but 16v_jon has a 172 conversion and its cheaper than a 172 insurance on his company same as it would be for me with my insurer as the car looks less like a theft magnet also the conversion is probaly done by the person so they know some mechnaics so insurers know if they do crash its unliky they will calim they will just fix it themselves saving the insurance company the bill. Its like insuring a kit car there dirt cheap as insurers know people fix them themselves.

i called first thing this morn, someones taken it so no longer available!

as above, J3ned will do it cheaper, £2000+vat sounds well expensive to me as 172 engines go for f**k all.

would be better buying a 172 for all the extra things you would need, like better brakes, suspension etc etc etc...

Sounds like pretty good value but you'd really need a full suspension and brake upgrade on top of that price
They'd change it all I'd suspect. Its more effort not to.
You can buy all the 2.0 stuff ie brakes suspension engine ECU dashboard gearbox for £1.5k + vat from j3ned.

I'd think they are doing this one for £500+ VAT for th work which is very cheap but its not to bad as the experiance they will gain will help them price future conversions they may find they can get cheap conversion kits from crashed 172's etc and £1k is possible for labour and make a profit.

I'll probably end up doing this conversion next year as its superb value for money.
