  Renault Clio
Hi all, don't really post much on this forum, hopefully be more active now I've just purchased a rs 200.

Ive literally put a deposit on one 3 hours away from me, so I'm yet to see it.

What's the things to look out for? Common faults?

Probably been asked a million times, Hopefully some of you can help.

Thanks in advance, Tom

The lower balljoints do go fairly frequently and are a pain to swap.

Got any pics or link to the car you've bought ?

Gearbox - Get the car to over 5k revs in 3rd gear and move to 4th. That’s a pretty tell tale sign of one on its way out if it crunches.

Exhaust flexis on downpipe - these are prone to splitting and then you’ll have an awful blowing. Can visually inspect if you have a way to get the car up but just another common fault. New ones will need to be welded in or a lot of people move over to the Toyosport manifold which will need new powerflex mounts to stop it banging on the subframe.

Lower ball joints - these are pressed in. Tell tale sign of them being worn is to move steering wheel left to right and listen for squeaking. Big job to change them.

Cambelt - Make sure this is done and by a specialist due to the VVT and specific tools needed otherwise consider that in the asking price. If you’re unsure who are specialists or not, find out who’s done the belt and ask on here.

I know this all to be spot on for a 197 and as far as I know, 200’s aren’t much difference. I believe the gearbox is a bit more robust but still equally as awful.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try and check for these problems, if he says the cambelt was done 2 years ago, when would it be due?

Hoping to turn it back to standard and put the trend line seats in
