Just sold my Clio!

yeah went down to the bank and the guy just done a transfer, going to really miss it as it is my first car. delivering it tonight, but looking forward to going car hunting!! lol..

thinking about a 106gti, or a megane coupe 2.0. both around the same insurance. like the megane is it is a bigger car, but have heard nothing but good reviews on the 106, what do u think?

yeah i know, i cant decide between the two. my mate has a 106 1.1, so goin to hav a shot of that to see if i can get used to the pedals. but really cant pick one between the two...

I went to look at a GTi on Sat - I sat in it and thought i dont like it already!

Went well (Not as well as my old valver i will add!) but i dont like them! Was glad to sit back in my golf! They feel so cheap!

The peddles are silly close! Seats are not very supportive, gearboxes are gash! The list goes on

lol, one of my friends had a megane coupe 1.4 but it only lasted 5 days, he wrote it off on christmas day on ice. but that was a really nice car, think i am slightly leaning towards it, as 106gtis are quite common where i am...

there is a 106gti, gold, think its 80k, lowered with centre exit exhaust for sale up where i live, might go have a look at it...

get a valver!

better handling and faster version of what you already have, plus there will be no need to get used to new controls as they will be the same, not to mention you will have more comfy and supportive seats!

no contest IMO

I almost bought a 106 GTi after I sold my Valver, but got a Williams instead.

Its hard if youre a private buyer and want to get a good look at a car youve never seen before, so I went to look at half a dozen or so. I was impressed with the 106, dont get me wrong, but a lot of the stuff Id found so good about the Valver was missing - and each of the ones I saw was a dog.

The 106 seemed to miss the Valvers high speed stability and it didnt actually seem as quick either, although the figures are about the same (I had a quick Valver though with head done etc). The 106 is a smaller car than the Mk1 Clio and I didnt get one well with the interior at all, especially the pedals.

The main problem for me was the condition of the cars I saw. Some of them were only 2 or 3 years old at the time but were already pretty tatty (just down to owner profile really). I think I was unlucky - one clearly idled badly, another had no V5 document (well chuffed I didnt get that one!), all had corrosion to the engine bay, another had a sticky rear brake calliper and so on.

At the time I was disappointed, but thought that Id begin to look for a Willy as it was only the rarity and difficulty of finding a good one that put me off. If it was going to be hard to find a nice 106, I figured I might as well put the effort into getting a Williams.

Doesnt mean the 106 is a bad car by any means, but for me it just wasnt meant to be!

Do try a 16V or Williams - a 106 will seem great after an RT, but you need to decide between them not in isolation of each other.

yeah thanks for all the replies, greatly appreciated, i really wanted a valver for a while, but am looking for a newer car now. i know the two are different types of cars, but its really only these two which take my fancy just now.

Get the GTi, the Meganes ok but no where near as much fun to drive as the 106.

think i will need to have a shot of the pedals as i have heard they are quite difficult to get used to, and if i dont mind it, just go for one...
