hi iv got a k&n induction kit and it says on the instructions to disconect the negative lead on the batt does anyone know why this is? does it reset the ecu or anything

It will soft reset the ECU so that when you refit the battery and turn the engine on the ECU will do a self test and sort the Air and fuel mixture to allow the car to run correctly. Also its just for safty as well last thing you want to do is chuck a spanner across the teminals and blow the Electonics in the car.
