Key busted! :(

  MK3 Sport Tourer TCE
Went to unlock the central locking yesterday, and got a big fat nothing.

Popped in to the Renault dealership in Coventry for a new battery for them to tell me it wasn't the battery. Apparently a piece had snapped inside the key and the button no longer made contact with the board inside.

They want £110 to replace the key, screw that :dead:

Anyone else had this happen, and is it a simple case of soldering the broken piece back into place?

Yes I had it happen on my 1.2 and it was about that price to replace :dapprove: Solder if you're capable but I took the key apart and it was tiny so didn't bother!

I'm certainly not capable, I've not soldered anything since secondary school heh.

I'm on the lookout for someone professional to do it, it's gotta cost less than £110 doing it this way :)

You sure it's broken and doesn't just need recoding? Does the red light come on when you pres the button and does the key still start the car once inside?

Yeah was definitely broken, piece on the circuitboard had snapped off.

Have just superglued the blighter back on, works fine! [for now :S ]

Better than paying Renault >£100 :rasp:
