Key FOB remote problem - can the remote be changed?

  Titanium 182
Hey, I am a friend of Aluco's and he suggested asking for advice here from anybody that is willing.

I have a R Reg Mk 2 ph 1 clio and the remote locking has stopped working, as far as i can tell, this is a problem with the remote itself and not the battery (the key still works for ignition etc and i have changed the remote).

I have searched to find information on a new key and most say that keys cannot be reprogrammed, however they have not been clear on if it would be possible to simple use the remote section out of a key and reprogram that to simply unlock the doors, while still using the original key for the engine etc.

ANy help would be greatly appritiated as finding clear information on this seems quite difficult.

a new key from renault will cost upwards of £150. You will probably find that inside the key, the part that the external button pushes down has broken off, this can be soldered back into place.

One way or another you will need to get this sorted as if you do not use the remote for a substantial period of time, the alarm will go off and not stop, even while driving!

The cost of the key is what i am trying to avoid, i have looked into the key and the button does indeed seem broken so i will look into that a bit more if its a common problem.

Is it possible at all to replace just the board with the button on etc with another key and get it reprogrammed?

yes but its the reprogramming that costs the large chunk of what renault charge for a new key. Welding the button back on will take literally seconds!

True, but that is if it is the button!

I am not at home at the moment so i cannot check, i am just looking for options.

Thanks a lot for the advice though, its very much appritiated.

So, just to clarify if i were to get a key from ebay, i could remove the chip, put it in my key and then get it to work with the car? (if it isnt just a problem with the button anyway)
