knocking noise in 1st gear and reverse any ideas??

i have a clio phase 2 172 i have a knocking noise when accelerating hard in 1st gear also when reversing if i pull the clucth out fairly quickly and in 1st gear if i accelerate slowly up to about 3 thousand rpm and then take my foot off the accellerator pedal it jolts and theres a knocking sound its worse when it first gets started up it was doing it even in second gear this morning when it was cold im really not sure what the problem is would appreciate any ideas thanks luke

Could be exhaust mount?

ive had a look under neath and tried to move the exhaust and it seems pretty solid the guy i bought the car off reckons its a drive shaft dont know how im supposed to know without paying a garage to look at it

It might actually be a problem with the gear box? I wouldnt go out and start buying stuff until you know what it is.

im going to wait till i get paid and take it into a garage and pay them to have a look and tell me what it is then ill get my mate to fit it cheapest option

Sorry to dig up an old post but did you find the cause of the problem? I have a similar knocking sound going on.
