Knocking noise

All of a sudden i have got a knocking noise going on, more so when i am going in a straight line and only when the car is moving. You can feel the knocking noise through the steering wheel.

Any suggestions??

How would you tell the difference for it being the steering rack or driveshaft?

wiggle the steering wheel or the driveshaft.

The noise increases speed with road speed but not engine speed.

will i have to jack the car up to wiggle the driveshaft?

yes........sounds like its a driveshaft, its deffo post diff related i think......

put the wheels on full lock & drive the car.....(slowley)........knocking noise = 99% drive shaft !

Ye it will be the driveshaft, cause the symptoms you described are exactly the same as what happend on my old 205 GTi.

Ok, taken for a short drive....no knocking when turning or at full lock only generally going in a straight line.

tried wiggling the steering wheel..all fine there.

I have a small money problem this month....i have none!

dont worry i have that problem every month........tight feckers like mike & benR never put anything in the collection box !!

last week they tried to steal one of the xxl candles........god only knows what they were gonna use that for !!!......kinky eh ??

haha...they have obviously got bored of the excitement in your average tool kit and have moved on to bigger and better things.........they seem to spend hours and hours locked up in that garage........if you are lucky every couple of hours or so one of them can be seen running into the house and returning with something resembling toilet roll...

ok........found out it is the drivers side front wheel bearing buggered so being fixed tommorow.

well at least its not something more serious!

christ that musta been well shagged to make a knocking noise.......they usually "hum or whine" for a few thousand miles first !!
