KTEC coilovers issue with OE topmount :S

  Titanium 182
I have the KTR coils fitted to my ph1 but the drivers side rubber top mount is loose, as in it can be undone completely by hand. I tightened it up originally with an impact gun thing.

I've tried tightening it again and it screws down all the way but stops when the metal part of the topmount in the centre touches the bottom metal bit around the screw thread on the coilover.

Once they are fully tightened the rubber of the top mount does not make contact with the body of the car at all. The other side does and I can't undo that side by hand.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with what from my poor poor description ?

I'll add some photos when I find my isnake cable.

Cheers.

Not quite sure what you mean there mate but it sounds similar to an issue I had where the the top caps (the metal cap things that screw to the top of the shocker inside the engine bay) sat uneven. Turned out when the previous owner had rebuilt the shocks he'd fitted the top mount upside down.

Firstly you shouldn't really be using an impact gun to tighten the top nut as this can spin the shaft of the strut.

I'd say as Jon does that the top rubber mount could be fitted incorrectly.

So you reckon I built up the drivers side strut wrong ? GAHHH ! I was going to get my alignment done then fit some new tyres this week now that will need sorting.

These are the pictures if they shed anymore light ?

This is when fully tightened...

In the 1st picture that's how both of mine sit now. In the 2nd picture where the cap is actually sitting down on the turret, that's how mine was sitting when the top mount was fitted upside down.

They're all pictures of the same topmount mate.

Second pic is just to show the screw thread.

They're all pictures of the same topmount mate.

Ah right, the angle must be throwing me off then lol.

What I'd do then is undo the top caps off each side, so they both look like they do in the 2nd picture. The rubber under the gold coloured nut is the top mount. Make sure they visually look the same because if one is upside down they'll look different.
