Lamda sensor problem?

Hi

My 172 cup has the engine management warning light on. Fault reader reports P0135 which is lambda sensor heater fault bank 1 sensor 1. It is also running like a dog. OK when cold then really low power plus mis-fire when warming up. Once warmed up still mis-fires quite often and and has lots of flat spots. I've reset the computer but the fault comes back after a while, especially quickly when engine cold but can go for miles without it when engine is warm even though the engine isn't running right.

I'm assuming sensor 1 is the one upstream of the cat?

My question is is it really the lamda sensor? Surely if the heater element was broken it the fault would come back immediately?

Has anyone tried these generic lamda sensors?

Thanks
Mark

Generic not worth the money stay with renault part.
Have you tried running the car without lambda sensor connected? Mine runs on 1 sensor as the upstream wiring to the ecu is funked. Stealers wanted £100+ 3 hours Labour to fit new one with no guarantee of solving if its the ecu.
The only difference I've noticed is a slight drop in mpg but when connected I was getting 13mpg!
I was reading fault p0130. I now drive with emmision light on dash.

Most cop cat parts are the same price as Renault near enough so just use Renault plus its a better part
£100 though.

driving with the emissions light on isn't going to help, when your mot pops up they wont let it go through so will have to eventually get fixed properly

And as for the original post check your plugs and the gap between the electrodes using the filler gadge as my old mans clio had this problem and they gaps wernt spaced to what renault specified

Get it sorted, the heater element in the sensor is there to get the sensor up to temprature quicker so it measures the air/fuel ratio more accuratly.
go down the genuine route coz generic sensors are naff.

Oh poo! That means I might need ecu and wiring loom according to renault as I've got corrosion on contacts. Do you think I shoud try to convince other half I need a new clio perhaps a 2litre!:D

Surely if its just the light they wont fail it they still have to test it?

Fitted a new upstream lambda sensor this morning and its all sorted. I checked the plugs and looked for any wiring probs before buying the new sensor but checking the wiring was difficult due to the crap access underneath. Managed to get the old one off pretty easily once I'd got the car up nice and high on stands with a standard 22mm spanner. Just enough access to get a 1/12th of a turn at a time. Its only 3 months since I had the last one replaced so the renault guy reckoned I'd get the money back if I could get the receipt from the garage that fitted the original one. When the last one failed it only became noticable at the MOT not like this time. Thanks for your help.
