Laptop Charger getting far too hot

Evening,
My partners laptop (Acer Aspire 3650) power supply gets really hot when used. At the moment its to the point where you can't clench it in your fists for more than 5 seconds without having to let go because of the heat.
Surely this isn't common?

Sometmies they do get quite hot, not usually that hot though. If its still working I wouldn't worry about it.

I got a Sony Vaio and it get so hot I can't hold it for more than a few seconds.
Think its quite normal to be honest.

Hot is because of the voltage step down. Energy is lost as it is converted from electricity to heat.

Normally HOT means it is working ok.

Also - Dont have power plugged in all the time. USE the battery, otherwise you are degrading the battery life significantly.
