the charger only works when the connector is in a certain way. is it the charger or the charging port on the laptop?

Probably the centre pin in the charging port on the laptop.

Not if your handy with a soldering iron. You can get a new port from Maplin for a few quid. The hard part is taking the mainboard out of the laptop and replacing the socket. If its still under warranty phone the manufacturer, get them to do it for you. This is of course assuming the port is the problem (9 times out of 10 it is the centre pin broken/loose).

i wouldnt trust my self mate. laptop is over 2 years old maybe i just need a new one
