Laptop power issues...strange as fcuk

Strange one this:S

Basically my daughter broke the power cable to her laptop (Dell Inspiron). So I managed to get a exact same OEM replacement via the bay of e.

Anyway when we put the power adapter into the laptop the laptop powers up and works fine apart from the pointer icon freezes. Un plug the adapter and run on battery the pointer icon unfreezes.

No this is the best bit....plug the adapter in to the laptop again the pointer icon freezes, but then plug in a mouse via USB and the icon is fine.

Its got me reeet puzzled :S any ideas?

LOL, that is one of those things that as a tech support person you would think you have a right one here!

As that is one of the wierdest things I have ever heard.

Sorry, I have no advice, I can't see how the two are related unless the power profile says to stop the trackpad when on mains power lol.

maybe another dodgy power adaptor. Giving too much/too little power causing the trackpad to stop working.

There are different wattage of power supplies for Dells, eg you get a higher wattage version for docking stations etc.

Make sure the output wattage exactly matches you old one.

Tis a strange one fo sure though.

I was thinking along the same lines

Its the same model number on the adapter as the one it replaced.

Are you sure its a genuine Dell PSU and not a cheapo chinese made version?
Genuine Dell part.

I think I'm going to try to borrow a adapter off a mate (same machine) if this works then its defo the adapter.

Cheers fro the replies chaps.... appreciated :)

try taking the battery out and just powering from the PSU and see if it still happens.

Good thinking....I'll try it:)

Hahahaha....it works with the PSU in and the mouse out:)

Good skills KDF.......but does this mean the batteries fckud? As the battery seems ok and holds its charge well when the laptop is being used.
