Laptop screen flickers twice when i switch on the laptop as if its refreshing..

Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed. I had a flickering problem on work's HP6270s where it was flickering everytime i moved or tapped the lappie. It was fixed by installing the latest BIOS. Couldnt believe it at first when the HP support guy was telling me to flash it.

Download the latest bios from the HP site / Compaq site / Interweb, wack it on a CD, make sure the CD is in when you restart, press f7 (or whatever it says) to load the new files and flash bios, cross your fingers and hope.

My dell's always done this. thought it was normal? Just updated the BIOS from ao1 to ao6 and it still does it

So was the 4 HP laptops that we bought that had the flicker problems.

Its quite easy. I did mine under windows and took 2 mins. If your not sure what to do then just call the HP support, they'll take you through it.
I've just updated my bios, but still flickered twice when i loaded the laptop up again...

Hmmm :dapprove:

Sounds like it can be solved but who knows.... not really bothered me a great deal, as it works perfectly fine.

Try this:

1. Go start/control panel/administrative tools/task scheduler.
2. On the left-hand side, click "Task Scheduler Local" (you should already be there, but just in case).
Expand "Task Scheduler Library," then "Microsoft," then "Windows," then click "MobilePC."
Up top, you'll see a task called "TMM." Click it, and on the right-hand side, click "Disable."

Cheers Scott, I tried that. Vista wouldn't let me totally disable TMM so I've scheduled it monthly. Just restarted my laptop and it used to flicker 2-3 times, now it flickers once v.quickly. So I think I'll live with it

Did u get urs from eBuyer FM?...

Yeah i thought it was some sort of refreshing thing that the graphics card has done...

But i followed Scotts instructions and it seems to have worked :) Great work Scott..

But out of interest what does TMM stand for?

How much for?...

And if u want ur flickering to go away, try Scotts thing... worked for me :)

TMM = Transient Multimon Manager. It basically improves connections to external displays/extra displays, but it really isn't needed unless you use a tablet pc or have 2/3 monitors on a desktop pc, just another useless vista add-on.

Glad I could help! :approve:

NB Vista may not let you totally disable it completely if you have a limited user account on the PC or your UAC (User Account Control) is enabled.. turn it off!
