Laptop screen going weird...

not particularly computer literate...

ive just been given a work laptop...

an HP Compaq6715b

i nearly shat myself when i was told that i logged on using my finger print...thought they where ripping the piss...

anyways..

on two seperate occasions...whilst running...the screen has turned to horizontal and vertical black and white lines...and crashed...

and i have had to restart..??

does anyone know what caused this?? i thought it might have been from overheating???

Too much redtube!!

utterly utterly gutted i cant go on p**n tbqfh....

i wouldnt leave my bed...or the house...

the other computer however...oh dear...crammed with filth...will prob have to be disposed of in sellafield...

First thing to check is the Graphics Driver.

Try downloading/installing the latest one from the HP Website

oh feck...that sounds serious..? should it not have automatic updates on??

ive run the "software manager" and there are no updates available...

im hoping it was just a one off..

Don't panic Mr. Mannering!

It's not a serious issue.

I mean, it may not be the driver causing the problems at all, but it is the first port of call.

Download http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-60201-1

And install it, even if it is already up-to-date, it could be a dodgey installation so at least it can be crossed of the list if no joy. :)

I'll do a bit of research though, your laptop maybe part of a known problem issued by HP so therefore the laptop may need to be sent to HP..

I wouldn't f**k about with it tbh.. Give it back to your IT guys and tell them to sort it.

If someone comes to us with a problem they have caused we tell them where to shuv it.

thats what i might end up doing if it happens again...altho im pretty much out in the middle of know where myself...so it would be a hassel sending it etc..and i would prob be without one for ages...

Is it doing the following?

If it is, then I hope it is under warranty because that is a hardware issue, nothing to do with Drivers etc

EDIT: Didn't realise it was a work laptop, I need to learn to read! Put it in their direction tbh..

thanks for those links...interesting...altho its not what is happening on the youtube vid...that looks horrific...like some kind of manky disease...

its more like static on the television...(altho not moving)...

im going to give the IT chap a phone i recon, after a wee bit of online searching...

As said if you don't know what your doing let work deal with it. Do you even have full admin rights on it?

funnily enough i do have full admin? i thought this was strange...

but in my job (archaeology) i think they trust me not to arse about with things...most in my proffession dont have a clue about computers...

they are there for email, typing things up, and research..

thats all
