Legality of Removing airbags??

I want to fit a aftermarket steering wheel to my cup 172. Is it illegal removing the steering wheel airbag when you do this mod, will it fail an MOT??

Doesnt affect mot or insurance, fine to do this.

For insurance will have to declare the steering wheel as 'interior modifications' though (this will cover you should you choose to fit buckets etc too without need to declare anything further)
