Legals of a decat ?

Does anyone know what the implications of having a decat are ?

And if its against the law to use one on the public road ?

What do people think the Police would have to say about them ?

Just thought i'd ask as my mate was saying if i had a roadside emmisions check i'd be fucked.

Whats the chances of this ? :S

Slim, but they are infact illegal in the broad sense of the word as they take your cars emissions above the government guidelines.

Also check with your insurance as alot of companies insist that the car is in a roadworthy condition to be fully comp. Fitting a decat can, in their eyes, deem it unroadworthy.

As for insurance all my stuff is declared

Exhaust, Filter etc etc as it aint worth it if i crash car

as far as i was aware a decat is NOT illegal, having a car that wont pass an MOT is.

the cars legal untill it fails an emmisions test in that sense.

This has come up loads before - try doing a search. Basically it is not illegal to have a decat necessarily as some cars will remain below the emissions leven even with a decat. Unless you are caught by someone who can test your emissions then there is no chance of you getting in any sort of s**t for it.

As the guys of said there is no physical check that a cat is present as part of an MOT. However on a modern car it's pretty likely it will fail on emissions without one, thus making the car illegal for road use.
