Hi everyone
3 months ago I bought a garaged Clio 2004 1.2 16v D4F with 8.000 miles on the clock. The previous owner kept it as a "souvenir", very rarely driving, clean inside, parts intact and just overall beauty to look at. We agreed he's going to do the main service before passing it on, changing belts, battery, filters, and oil.
Besides the airbag sensor which is a common issue, everything was running fine until a week ago when we had two days of heavy rain. Since then I've been losing my head trying to diagnose what seems to be a problem.
The original issue was that the car went into limp mode. Driving at 30mph the electric fault light came on and revs were going up/down, in limp mode. I restarted it, was running fine. Happened 3/4 times that day, then the problem's gone.
Two days later, when I'm driving home acceleration gets jittery. In 2nd or 3rd gear, when I press the pedal there is little effect, it stalls for 1/2 seconds and then starts accelerating. Happened a few times, but nothing major. Got home okay.
Yesterday same problem happened, but this time it will just barely accelerate. Couldn't get past 30/40mph. Anyway, I get home and the car just dies. I fire it up, starts normally, but idles really rough. Dies again. The third time it stays on, but when I press the pedal there is a click sound somewhere. Kind of like a chute would open and close. I get my neighbour to try and scan for codes again (didn't show anything before) and I get DF216 and DF207.
DF216: Automatic control of the valve unit; inconsistency of flap departure
DF207: Pressure sensor input signal; short circuit with +12v
I started it up today, idles weirdly, but no clicking sounds and no errors. I'm reluctant to go on the road until this is fixed. I'm suspecting throttle body, but is it possible it would be dirty or even gone after 9500 miles?
DF207 is a mystery, another post on here mentioned their charcoal vapour canister was flooded?!
Any ideas before I open the engine and play the lottery on who's the culprit?
