Keep the Clio on the road, winter tyres if your fussy. Then, get your car in 'dirty Clio' thread lol

It's not its a Megane in my case lol.. I regretted not getting a run around when I had my vee.. And I'm sick off cleaning a white car every other day with all the farmers and crappy roads around here at the min.

  Whichever has fuel
106 1.1 or 1.5d
Saxo 1.1 or 1.5d
Micra K11 1.0
Ford ka (I spend £10 per week on fuel in mine! :D)
Fiat Punto 1.1
Daewoo matiz 795cc

The list is endless.

All of them are s**t to drive, and if you crash above 4mph you WILL die, and you will want to kill yourself on the motorway, but they are all dirt cheap to run and pretty bullet proof.

I live about 50 miles from the nearest motorway so no fear of that... Only 1 that is good fun is the ka..

I would agree but it also has no brakes. Like none. At all.

Bloody good fun though.

My ex had a fairly late one.. A collection I think it was.. In bright yellow.. And that was great fun.. It feels as wide as it is long with a wheel right out at each corner. Also the engine seemed much better than the older ones? Not sure if they changed them. Just a pity about the colour..

I was looking for a cheap car a few years ago and test drive a 1.5d 106.. About 100 yards was enough to slap myself around the face and get a grip. Never driven anything so slow before or since.

Yeah they do a 'later' engine.

Mine is that very engine, not the crappy old push rod tappy tap box!

Ye my ex from years ago went to look at and older one for her 1st cars years ago which I drove and it was very noisy/tappety. That's what made me think they did a later one.
Im looking at less than £500 though just to get to work and back and go shooting in. All local stuff so I'm not fussy.

Tbf, if you can cope with the tapping, the older ones are fine, apart from rust rust and more rust! lol.

Mines a 54 plate, done 52k and its like brand new mechanically; drive perfectly. Sadly, every panel is dented and I look like a handicapped person driving it. :(

I bought an N reg 1.2 Clio a few years ago for £110 with tax and mot. Bought it, crashed it around and used it for a bit. Was bullet proof, so much fun, and was actual nice not to worry about dents, scratches or anything

edit: I lied, was no tax. I had to pay for that. Forgot. Still cheap motoring!

This. Why bother getting a piece of s**t that you will hate when you've got a perfectly good car to drive?
+2 on this. Don't see the point in it myself, massive waste of money. Up to you thought fella :) most cheap hatchbacks are a b**ch to insure as a lot of young people own/crash them...

Well my r26 is a low mileage, white, late example with lux pack, xenons etc. it does 27mpg and it seems a waste puting pointless miles in it in the dark in the mud and crap and rain. It's literally covered in mud after one trip to work.. And I can't go shooting or anything in winter down muddy tracks to farms etc. be nice to have something that costs next to nothing and that I couldn't care less about to get to work etc.

If I was running a 182 still I wouldn't bother tbh.. I ran my vee as a daily for over a year and regret it tbh.. It cost me an absolute fortune. Plus put pointless miles on it etc. I was 24 at the time too so insurance was enough. Let alone filling it up twice a week! I got 18mpg if I was lucky.

False economy IMO - I had a 52 plate 172 as a run around.. After owning a brand new 182 in 05 then a brand new R27 in 07 would only have another second hand Clio as a track car, NEVER as a daily driver.

I just took the 182 off the road for winter. Bought a suzuki vitara for £650 with MOT till April. Done about 800 miles in it in 2 weeks and its been bang on the money! £120 tax for 6 months but will get a refund on my insurance at the end of the year as its cheaper to insure than the clio!

I wanted a cheap little car that we find have to worry about, park it anywhere and use in all weathers, we ended up with a 182 :)

Which in turn makes them tempting to bellends, the same way most hot hatches of the last 10-15 years have went.

That is true.. Remember buying my 1st one.. On my 21st bday 6 months old a 11k! Did 70 hours a week for a year to buy that..

Well played mate. I bought my 182 brand new/pre reg'd @ 20 (was handed a substantial inheritance cheque), was a nice feeling as I only had my 1.2 dynamique for 18 months before the 182, had a few 'moments' in it tho lol.

Miss this bus, i was a student at the time so I has 3-4 days a wk to keep it immaculate:
