Locking Handbrake.

Anybody had any issue with their rear wheels sticking slightly on their 172 when parked for a few days or after a relatively short time after being driven in damp conditions. Is it a general isue or just with mine.

its the water causing the pads/discs to surface rust and makes the pads stick to the discs. they will release as you pull away but you will notice it. no solution from renault as far as i know.

Always happens if you wash the car then put it in the garage overnight. Can be a bit of a scare if the cars parked outside (e.g. in an airport carpark) for a couple of weeks. No lasting ill-effects though.

No solution and no problem.

Happens all the time and isnt anything to worry about.
agree its no problem etc but the only complaints we get of this are on the 172 which seems strange. most customers wont accept thats its nothing to worry about and to be honest why should they because sometimes they come off with a bit of a bang even after just one night in the wet. if they stick after being stood for a long time then fair enough but after one night is a bit sh*t in my opinion. as its a design/build problem so there is no immediate solution but this complaint causes me no end of grief at work. couldnt they just change the pad compound or something?

They could, but its all down to whether its worth them finding a pad material that wont stick to cast iron once rust has formed the bond between the 2 items. The stopping the production line, cleaning it, putting the new raw materials in.

They might of decided its cheaper to let the punters complain.

It happens on all cars, even mine wiht drum brakes, what is a real b*****d is when youve cleaned it and it freezes, and the pads are frozen to the drum/disc

yea, thats happened to mine (The freezing part that is) took about half hour to clear, tried driving it up the road but the front wheels just started spiining. All good fun.

Strangely the boss didnt believe me when I told him why I was late, lol

Erm, it happens to my humble 1.4 Si.

Always happens after Ive cleaned my wheels. I wash my car, park it in the garage and then the next morning, I release the handbrake, reverse and itll have a little sticky moment as the pads click off the discs.

Nowt wrong with my car so far.

i see what your saying but seeing as renault are right down the table in customer service/vehicle surveys you would have thought they might look into it.

Yea, but its like the Ford Pinto in the states.

they had a nasty habbit of blowing up if a car collided with the rear of them, but ford sold so many that it was chaper to pay off the lawsuits than to bring forth a recall.

Plus Ren really dont care, hence why we threw the agency back in their faces....the factory are stuckup gits.
